Mechanical thin film evaporator is another project of Hydro-Instal engineers, which was ordered by a customer from the potato industry. It is an evaporator with an evaporating area of 1.5m² including a condenser.
Thin film evaporator principle of operation
An evaporator is a specialized piece of equipment that makes it possible to carry out a number of thermal processes such as distillation, evaporation, rapid heating or cooling, thickening, degassing. This equipment makes it possible to process a given medium with thermolabile properties, i.e. sensitive to high temperatures. On the industrial scale, they are used to thicken food products, among other things.
The design of our thin film evaporator
The thin film evaporator is an apparatus of vertical construction and consists of the following units:
- liquid-cooled top head, in which the top bearing of the agitator is built in,
- agitators with knives of different widths, so the gap can be adjusted,
- a three-member evaporative element,
- supporting the lower shaft with a drain spigot,
- bottom of the evaporator,
- drive.
Elements having contact with the medium and steam are made of AISI 321 stainless steel, the remaining elements are made of AISI 304 steel. The mechanical thin film evaporator has been manufactured and tested in accordance with Technical Inspection Office regulations.
We assembled the device, launched it and performed the necessary tests.
