On the Cursed Soldiers National Remembrance Day, i.e March 1, the first Museum of Cursed Soldiers was opened in Poland. The official ceremony of handing over the keys to the facility was attended, among others, by Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Culture and National Heritage Piotr Gliński, representatives of local government authorities of the city, district and province. There were also uniformed services, representatives of veteran organizations of Cursed Soldiers and representatives of contracting companies such as ours.
The construction of the museum began in July 2017 and included the modernization and expansion of the old detention facility – originally a tsar-era prison built in 1903. The total area of the facility is 3,500 m2, and the entire facility consists of as many as six buildings.
As part of the investment, the Hydro-Instal company had a task to make internal and external sanitary installations, such as:
Heating installations, central heating installations and process heat installations.
Column and channel trench heaters were installed as part of these installations. Column heaters are characterized by a unique surface structure and colour. The transparent varnish used in the finish of the heaters gave the product a modern look that retains its historic nature.
Trench heaters reflect the most modern technological solutions in the field of this type of product. The latest generation of controllers was used to control the heaters, thanks to which even better energy efficiency of buildings was achieved.
• Water and sewage installations
Washbasins and other sanitary devices made of bacteriostatic stainless steel were installed at the investor’s special request.
• Mechanical ventilation installations
As part of this installation, comprehensive mechanical ventilation with air conditioning was created for all buildings included in the museum complex. The most time-consuming element of the installation was covering the insulated ventilation ducts with metal sheets in the colour designed by the investor. Thanks to this, ventilation has not only a functional value but also a decorative one for the rooms and fits perfectly into the historic nature of the museum.
• Sanitary sewage system
All internal works including also sewage pumping stations and typical earthworks were performed as part of this installation.
• Rainwater drainage
The biggest challenge in the construction of rainwater drainage was to build a rainwater pumping station at a depth of about 7 meters in the immediate vicinity of historic buildings. But of course we managed to do that as well. The connection to the existing rainwater network was made by a jacking under the national road.
• Water supply network
As part of the task, the entire water supply system was completed along with the fire protection system in all buildings.
• Heat network
6 heat distribution centres were made for the thermal comfort of visitors. These centres were powered by pre-insulated plastic pipes.
The Hydro-Instal company was also responsible for the installation of drainage for the footbridge, the lift roof and the lift shafts.
For our company, it was a unique project because thanks to the commitment and work of companies such as ours, we can commemorate the forgotten Polish heroes – the Cursed Soldiers, restore the Polish memory of them, but also teach and educate the young generation who do not know this history.
